Kaitlyn's Birthday

My Kaitlyn Bug is 5!!!! It takes a whole hand to show how old she is! 5!!! Wow!!! She is the best big sister and loves watching out for her siblings, especially her little brother. He always gets excited when he sees her and she is so good and sweet with him. She is my best helper. Her newest feats include writing her name, and letters and numbers galore. Going to school has been the biggest treat for her. She also loves to draw and color so you can only imagine the amount of paper we are going through in our house... and she is always happy to share and teach Anna the things she is learning. One of her other favorite things to do is sing and she learns songs very quickly. It seems that she comes home from church or school withnew song to sing for all of us almost everyday. She is learning and growing so quickly it amazes me. I love my little girl.

She says that she had a fantastic birthday and I believe her. It started off with her taking treats to school and getting this great hat that she happily wore all weekend to remind us that it was her birthday. Then she got to open up her presents- and they were a huge hit. She and Anna have been very busy...

On Saturday she had her Rapunzel Birthday party-and it turned out great. I was a little stressed trying to figure out how to make everything work (especially as we ended up inside with all these kids because of the weather. When a few cancelled because they were sick I was grateful for the smaller numbers, but don't tell Bug that...) but everything went really smoothly. Kaitlyn was counting down the time all morning until her friends would arrive. She made me tell her what numbers the clock would point to when it was party time, and kept us updated. Our games were all Rapunzel inspired so we started out painting the walls in the kitchen. I think all the kids would have stayed here and done this the entire time.

Kaitlyns painting turned out fairly epic as she kept working on it all day. At this point it shows Rapunzel in the rain with a rainbow.

Anna happily painted her picture of rainbows (we ran out of wall space but she thought it was hilarious to paint on the oven!)

We then proceeded to the Snuggly Duckling for our treat where we had a giant Rapunzel cupcake with a 5 candle as Kaitlyn requested.

Our next activity was decorating Lanterns. You can see the kids holding them here- we were having too much fun to take pictures at this point.... they used the lanterns to light their way on a treasure hunt through the house. My favorite part of the party was when they were on the last clue, which was a video clip from the movie, and it was dark and they all had their lanterns glowing and were so excited to get the clue to the treasures final hiding place (under the stairs of course. What works for Rapunzel will definately work for us!). Sweet kids.

The treasure was a Precious Satchel for each kid with some candy jewels inside. Kaitlyn picked out the fabric for the girls (a litte crazy but fun) and was so excited about this part. After happily sewing them up, I was almost more excited for them to find the treasure than they were! (I like a Hobbit-esque philosophy for birthday parties). Kaitlyn then got to open presents, and I will definately be inviting these kids again because she mostly got stocked up with paper and pens and colored pencils galore. Just right. Then a couple of little dolls and a Pascal my sister made that is the cutest thing ever. Love it. Thank you all!! Kaitlyn is already planning next years party!
