Richard and I tried to kill ourselves off working this political season. Our days were packed leading up to the election. I was designing dozens of flyers and mailers and Richard was running campaigns and coordinating people and events all over. It was intense and fun to be working together. I love that husband of mine :) Suffice it to say that we were exhausted and ready for a break! Luckily for us, Richard had to go to a conference in San Antonio the weekend after, so I decided to tag along and make a vacation of it!
It was so nice to get away together- we got the chance to see the San Antonio Temple which has gorgeous stained glass and was so beautiful.
We also toured 4 of the Missions along the river and really enjoyed it. They were all built in the 1700's and some of them had not much left while others had been fully restored- we enjoyed seeing the range and the care that had gone into them.
There were beautiful details from exceptional craftsmen.
And each of them still had working chapels that were still in use. So much fun history!
Our hotel was right on the Riverwalk, which we loved walking along and even took a boat tour of. We also ate lots of good food! My favorite being the Mexican and one restaurant where we got to be entertained by a Mariachi band that mixed in the traditional with covers of popular songs like "moves like Jagger," "My girl," and medley involving "who let the dogs out." Hilarious. They were so full of energy! There was plenty in the area within walking distance, including the Spanish Governors mansion where we met this conquistador :)
And of course we visited the Alamo!
I got to visit here once before as a teenager when my sister Angie lived in Austin and it was a very memorable trip. It was fun to come back here and tour around with Richard. A perfect, laid back trip for us while the kids got thoroughly spoiled back at home by both sets of grandparents (we love you!).
